Molasses Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 teaspoon baking soda
2 cup sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup granulated sugar

Directions:
1. Melt shortening (heat for about 1 minute and 20 seconds in the microwave on high), let cool for about 5 minutes.
2. Add sugar, molasses and egg, beat well. Hint: Use the same measuring container for the molasses as the shortening.
3. Sift together dry ingredients . . .
4. . . . And add to first mixture.
5. Chill for 20-30 minutes.
6. Preheat oven to 375°.
7. Form in 2.5 cm (1 inch) balls, roll in 1/4 cup granulated sugar and plave on greased cookie sheets 5 cm (2 inches) apart.
8. Bake at 375° for 8-10 minutes. Note: Tops will be slightly gooey. Let cool.
Makes about 2 dozen 5 cm (2 in) cookies. Takes about 1 hour to complete.
