Early in 2008 Jackie received a strong impression that she should serve a mission. Up till this time she had not expressed a desire to serve. A couple months later as she was preparing to attend the temple her stake and branch presidents both felt that she should be on a mission. Having determined previously that she would follow her leaders' counsel, she said she would, and proceeded to prepare.

She did receive her endowment in the Boise Temple in November, then spent the first half of December 2008 in Minnesota visiting with siblings, nieces and nephews. Because of being away from Boise for three weeks before going to the MTC, she preferred to be set apart in Minnesota. So the arrangements were made to have her membership record in the Bloomington Ward, where she grew up and where her brother Jansen and his family now live. That way she could be set apart by the Burnsville Stake president, President Rob Payne who has been a friend of the family for 20 years. Jackie's parents and most of her siblings and their families were present on December the 14th at President Payne's home for the setting apart. President Payne gave her a very nice blessing, that she would love the people, and even the food in the Philippines.


Jackie flew to Salt Lake City on the 16th of December, where her aunt Beth picked her up, put her up for the evening, then took her to the Missionary Training Center in Provo on the 17th. So she will be in the MTC during Christmas. Her family is hoping to hear from her before Christmas, but as of the 21st they are just  hoping that she is well and enjoying the experience there.
