I was watching a little PBS last night and there was a show called Globe Trekkers, where they were traveling around the UK. One segment featured a guy eating a cornish pasty and when I woke up from my nap (it’s day five of this wretched cold!) I was starving and wanted a cornish pasty. As I was thinking about it I realized the dough might be similar to that needed for floating island pudding, so I doubled the recipe and made four pasties (one of which I ate before the photo was taken) with potatoes, ground turkey, frozen peas and carrots, and assorted herbs (pronounced with the “h”)--not exactly authentic, but close enough, I think. They look like they were bleeding, don’t they? They’re not quite that red in real life. Delish!

I’m not sure if the dough was quite right for the floating island pudding, though. I don’t think it absorbed enough water, so the pudding is still floating in a thin sugary soup. I called my mom (hi, mom!) to check to see if it was done and it seems to be done, but I think that was the problem. Oh well. I’m sure it will be fine (I haven’t tasted it yet).

Jansen and one of his friends came over to give me a blessing last night, which was good. They also shoveled my driveway (even the half I hadn’t yet shoveled), which was extra nice of them.

So my plan is to be all better tomorrow (or at least well enough to leave the house, which I haven’t done for four [!] days). I have a dayful of music planned and can’t miss it!
