Julie’s Blog

Well, it only took Jerica a week straight of sewing, 41 bobby pins, and an undisclosed amount of money, but I managed to transform myself into a plausible replication of Snow White for the Halloween dance on Friday. In fact, Jerica did such a great job on the dress that I won the costume contest. It was fun dressing as a Disney Princess and I highly recommend it for those who may be so inclined. You can’t help but have a good time and be kinda sweet too. Okay, I wasn’t as sweet as Snow White, but I did have a good time. And props to Gracie-pie Eleanor Dick for the idea. Here’s how it happened. Five or six years ago, when Gracie was a mere three- or four-year-old, I met her for the first time. Funnily enough, she’s the child of one of my high school acquaintances. But I met her because a good friend of mine was her nanny. Gracie is the second of three girls and as Sue (my friend) reported to me later, she went home to tell her sisters all about me. “You gotta meet Julie,” she apparently said. “You’ll love her--she looks just like Snow White!” Sue and I laughed about that for several years, but the idea stuck and when I finally had access to a willing and able seamstress (after a few years of trying to get around to it myself and failing) I decided to finally do it fully. I’m just sorry that Gracie wasn’t around to appreciate it. There was a young girl at the dance, the daughter of somebody there, and she became my best friend. She seemed to be quite in awe of being in the presence of Snow White, although she did critique my choice of shoes. “Snow White’s shoes are light brown,” she said (mine were dark brown). “Well, [inspecting closer] they have a bow, so that part’s right. I guess you can just try again.” At least she could remember who I was. Most of the guys there kept calling me Cinderella. Disgraceful how few people know their Disney Princesses these days! And for the record, I took the Disney Princess quiz and I’m really Belle. I guess that will have to wait until next year!
